I have not tested or used the harddrive installer for Damn Small Linux. In the future I may consider ensuring it works but for my current needs it is not useful.
The knoppix-installer will work with the livecd I've created. I have not modified the installation scripts so there will be some errors. They may be safely ignored as they relate the fact that I've removed the knoppix user and don't stop the installation from occurring. The best option is to select the knoppix style system and after re-booting a few changes will need to be made.
- Set a new root password
- Edit lilo.conf to remove the "single" kernel boot option
- Edit /etc/inittab to look the same as InittabConfig, there is an example in /usr/share/doc/booth/
- Check rc5.d to ensure services are setup correctly, the only services running should be ssh and portmap.
That should be everything and the system should start normally next time it is booted up. You can switch to kiosk mode by entering the command init 5.
